I think this is a very solid game. Truth be told, don't listen to the people yapping about "I've played Runescape for so long"... dude it's a different style. It's fun. Level progression among regions is fun if you're just an average gamer who likes to have playing after work or if you have free time on the weekends. It's a good game. Onto the negatives: Early levels seem kind of tough. Rats are killing you quick and cows are kicking your butt lol. It takes a couple hours until you can comfortably kill mobs in a quick succession. Not a big whoop. The game doesn't really help with crafting stuff... normal RS has a brilliant tutorial on how to use ores, silks, leathers, and bars to craft better armor.. etc. This game doesn't give that good of a guide about that.. beware. Overall: - Play it if you like to take your time, have fun, explore, and build. - Do not play if you plan on griding for a weekend or two , telling your friends its fun, and never playing again, and then complaining about repetitiveness... just be normal and experience the game yourself.

You'd think that with the extensive amount of lore through the multiple hundreds of quests and the huge world from 20+ years of development in Runescape, that Dragonwilds would breathe a breath of fresh air into the saturated survival-crafting genre, however it shamelessly and disappointingly fits itself comfortably into the cookie cutter system that came before it. Everything about this game feels half baked and as though someone behind the desk was told to do the bare minimum. The areas that you pass through use the same boring system of gathering resources to make the tools to kill the boss and then move swiftly along to the new area where you'll do it all over again. The quests are insult to Runescape, never requiring much thought; running back and forth from point A to point B will usually suffice. One of my biggest gripes with this game is the combat and the dungeons because holy ♥♥♥♥, whoever did the pathing for mobs in this game should be fired immediately. Any monster larger than a skeleton will get stuck on just about any wall, rock, tree or cliff edge possible. Combat in general is an absolute mess, nothing is challenging, everything is telegraphed, even the bosses feel like they're made for children. You never have to actively engage with any combat, as any non-boss mob will sluggishly walk slowly towards you waiting to die as if the developers didn't think that with two ranged options, no one would possibly try to create space between them and the enemy. The dungeons are even worse, as if they were made for preschool children, running through empty corridors with "traps" that do negligible damage, to pull a lever to fight an even more uninteresting 'boss'. Seriously, who the ♥♥♥♥ shipped half of this crap? A couple of the pyramid dungeons were slightly more engaging with the scarabs and the light to ward them off though the Kuldra fight was probably the most laughable joke of a boss I've ever seen in my life, I felt genuinely insulted that my 50 hours of playtime lead up to that, running from point A to B to charge a cannon while the dragons get stuck on the terrain. These developers are taking the piss. You have so many different inspirations to pull from in Runescape like CG, Doom, Zulrah, even ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ Barrows (Released in 2005 btw) and you can't come up with anything even remotely interesting, it's a joke. The skills system, the core of Runescape, seems like an afterthought. There's nothing interesting going on with them and the developers didn't have the mind or the care to design it functionally in that your skilling levels are demanded to increase linearly with your progress in the game. Quests have no level requirements and the rewards from them never inspire any encouragement in pushing the player to level up skills. Even the level requirements are absurd, why on earth would I want to get to level 80 farming for a glorified compost bucket saving me less than a minute. I get the impression that no one playtested half of this stuff and if they did, didn't care to give any constructive feedback. That being said, the game runs well and I never experienced any massive game breaking bugs. I'll probably play future updates, but after playing through the 1.0 launch, I'm not expecting much and you shouldn't either.
