I don't think I've ever seen a better video game adaptation of horror source material. And I'm only 3 hours in. They did this right.

Honestly, as a small fan of Hellraiser, I love it. It's super cool. My own pitfall is that I don't know much about lore other than the movies. As for it being a video game, I really don't like it. I don't think it does things better than most other games of this style like Resident Evil or Bioshock but I think it is at least equivalent to those games. There's also gaps here and there in the lore? I never did learn the significance of that spider thing or the weird slug thing stalking you throughout the labyrinth. The labyrinth in general can just be tedious. Butterball basically gets like 5 minutes of screentime and plays next to no role at all. The combat can be clunky and slow and it generally doesn't feel that good. It also grabs me by the balls sometimes with how I am forced to manage my resources. Honestly, as long as I spam dragon's breath at groups of enemies and carry the pistol for random things here and there, I don't really need to upgrade or venture out that much. I found the ending to be disappointing and empty. It really is "mundane" and "unfulfilling" as the female cenobite said. I think the first part of the game up to about Charlotte is well done and had me really interested but past that point it just started getting repetitive and tedious. I felt like I cared less and less about exploring or trying to learn more about the universe. If I had known this would be my experience, I would've just watched a playthrough on YouTube and called it good. It's not worth the $40.
