I was looking through the reviews for ATMOSFAR and honestly felt like writing one myself, because I think people are being a little too harsh on this game. It's a shame to see so many people get so caught up in their frustration that they seem to overlook what this game actually has to offer. Seeing the reviews drop to around 40% for a game that is genuinely this good is pretty disappointing, especially when so many of the negative reviews come from people with less than three hours of playtime who have barely made any progress through the story. And I get it. Performance matters, and people have every right to be frustrated when a game doesn't run as well as it should. Those complaints are completely valid. But does that alone make it a bad game? I don't think so. There is so much to appreciate here. The atmosphere is incredible, the world is beautiful, and the overall lore and questline genuinely make you want to keep exploring. Every new location feels worth visiting, and the amount of care put into the environments, the models, the architecture and even the smallest details is honestly breathtaking at times. The crafting system is also straightforward and easy to get into, without feeling unnecessarily complicated. What I especially appreciate is the sense of discovery. There's something really satisfying about simply being in this world, taking in the scenery and gradually learning more about it. It's the kind of game where you can get distracted from what you're supposed to be doing just because something in the distance caught your attention. And then there's the shipbuilding. The amount of freedom you have to design and build your own massive ships is incredible. You can even create internal docks for smaller vessels. The sheer scale and creative possibilities of this system alone are something worth appreciating. I'm not saying the game is perfect, or that people should ignore its technical problems. The developers absolutely need to address those issues. But I do think there's a difference between a bad game and a good game having a rough launch. ATMOSFAR has only just released, and I think it deserves a little more patience than it's currently getting. There's clearly a lot of passion and creativity behind it, and it would be a shame for all of that to get buried underneath complaints about performance. If you've already written the game off after an hour or two, I'd genuinely encourage you to give it another chance. Look past the initial frustration and spend some time actually experiencing what the game has to offer. There's a really good game here, and I hope more people get to see that.

After 92 minutes, ATMOSFAR feels less like its own game and more like a No Man’s Sky clone with floating islands. Gather resources, recharge equipment, make fuel, craft upgrades, repeat. Different scenery, painfully familiar gameplay. The aircraft and mobile airbase don’t do enough to give that loop its own identity. Then there’s the ridiculous hippie philosophy behind defending yourself: respect the alien wildlife while it tears you apart. Creatures can kill you incredibly quickly, yet my only handheld defence so far is a flare gun. The developers deliberately favour stunning and scaring creatures away over conventional weapons. I think that is a stupid design choice in a world this hostile. Peaceful coexistence seems to be an obligation exclusively for the player. The aircraft themselves feel awful to fly. There’s so much automatic intervention that it feels like an “AI” is fighting me for control. Lower the landing gear and the aircraft immediately starts dropping towards the ground. Try taking off with the gear down and it feels glued to the surface. Instead of feeling like I’m piloting an aircraft, I’m wrestling with whatever the game has decided it should do. On top of that, you’re stuck with a third-person-only camera, with no first-person option. The controls feel janky, and my character gets stuck on the environment. Simply moving around becomes another source of frustration. There’s also practically zero useful guidance explaining what does what or how the systems work. Experimenting can be fun, but making the player wrestle with awkward controls and unexplained mechanics is a poor substitute for an actual introduction. An interesting aircraft concept doesn’t make up for a derivative gameplay loop, frustrating self-defence, awful flight controls and a game that barely explains itself. Not recommended.
