As a huge fan of David Lynch and Twin Peaks, Silver Pines feels like a love letter to everything Lynch has created. It feels like the perfect blend of something he would make himself, while also reminding me of the eerie atmosphere of Silent Hill and even at times the old-school Resident Evil games. I've spent countless days dreaming about what a Twin Peaks game would look like, and the biggest compliment I can possibly give the developers is that Silver Pines is the closest I've ever come to thinking, "This is it." Yes, even closer than Deadly Premonition, which is another game I absolutely love. Sure, the game wears its inspirations on its sleeve, but it never feels like it's simply trying to imitate them. It constantly finds ways to carve out its own identity, and I can confidently say that Silver Pines stands on its own as something special. Stories that make you question absolutely everything you're seeing are some of my favorite things in media, and this game does an unbelievable job of scratching that itch. I absolutely adore its unapologetic weirdness. It's not afraid to leave you without answers, and just when you think you might be getting somewhere, think again, the game throws another question your way that makes you go back to the drawing board. There's something incredibly compelling about a game that trusts the player to sit with the uncertainty rather than feel the need to explain everything. The game also does a fantastic job of bringing all its elements together, pairing gorgeous animation and a genuinely compelling mystery with exploration that constantly makes you curious about what you'll discover next. The town of Silver Pines itself is absolutely incredible to explore. Every corner feels like it has a story to tell, and you never quite know what you'll find behind the next door... if it opens from this side. (You know exactly what I mean.) The voice acting and dialogue are really, really good, adding even more character to an already wonderfully strange world. I genuinely wish more people would give this game a chance. Even if you're not particularly into horror, there's so much more here to appreciate than just the "horror" label. The mystery, the atmosphere, and the sheer weirdness of it all might just make Silver Pines your gateway into the genre.

Steam’s top-ranked review for and against the game in these 7 days, in English. Votes as they stood when this map was made.
I will start off by saying that Silver Pines is a beautifully crafted survival horror game that draws heavily from the likes of Silent Hill and Resident Evil. Its greatest strength is undoubtedly its atmosphere, with stunning rotoscoped visuals and an unsettling soundtrack that bring its mysterious town to life. I also appreciated the tanky controls, which capture that classic survival horror feeling. The world is genuinely intriguing to explore, and the mystery surrounding it gives you plenty of reasons to keep pushing forward. Unfortunately, exploration gradually becomes one of the game's biggest frustrations. Its Metroidvania structure encourages revisiting previous locations as you acquire new items and unlock pathways, but the sheer amount of backtracking eventually becomes exhausting. I frequently found myself wandering through familiar areas, trying to figure out where to go next, and what initially felt like rewarding exploration slowly turned into a tedious process. The occasionally clunky combat doesn't help matters either. What disappointed me most, however, was the story itself. Silver Pines does an excellent job of establishing an intriguing mystery, yet having finished the game, I felt utterly dissatisfied with its payoff. After spending so much time piecing together its secrets, the conclusion left me feeling surprisingly flat. It's especially frustrating because the atmosphere and presentation had me invested in uncovering the truth. Silver Pines is an impressive artistic achievement, but its excessive backtracking and underwhelming narrative payoff ultimately left me dissatisfied.
