Huge fan of the first game so I'll just rattle off some thoughts here: STUFF I LIKE: - Was worried about the new metaprogression (Neural Network?) tree being pretty bland at first, but after unlocking a decent amount of nodes, I see the vision, and I think it's a great concept. - New weapons and animations look and feel great. Some lingering DZ1 gripes about primary/secondary that I'll cover later. - In a game built around playing the same stuff repeatedly, I like what they're hinting at with the "make a choice" thing at the end of missions. My guess/hope is that the resources at the end will be tied to crafting/upgrades. - Melee actually seems really fun and viable now. Honestly not sure how it was in DZ1 because there wasn't as much support for it, but I keep building it on the higher difficulties and I keep being rewarded for it so we'll see. - Related to above, there actually seem to be more dynamic build opportunities than DZ1's typical endgame of "Snapdragon > Proc Chance > Element of Choice" - Classes are dope! The fact that each class has unique perk trees makes them much more enticing to play and try out! - Level design so far looks to be much more varied and dynamic, which carries games like these SO much further in my eyes. - New elements are clearly designed to support specific weapons and playstyles, which is very cool. Give us a reason to build stuff other than mainly Lightning/Cryo and you're golden. STUFF I DON'T LIKE AS MUCH: - Hard to say if we're all just hyperconditioned off of DZ1, but still worried that Primaries are going to fall well behind Secondaries and Melee. There are so many cool Primaries I want to juice up, but Reload Speed keeps being the thing that makes them feel sluggish. If I could build towards mitigating that one simple thing more easily mid-run (or thru Neural tree) I think I would be using them way more. - This might be demo-specific, but some of the missions started to slog. 30 waves of survival on Highspeed for instance felt like the experience overstayed its welcome pretty heavily -- especially because the difficulty spikes almost immediately. I really like what they're cooking with new missions types but difficulty curve and mission length are both a little odd at the moment. - Again, may be demo-specific, but already a little concerned at the amount of recycled rooms, enemies, and a recycled DZ1 boss. It does make sense given how quickly dev for this sequel started after DZ1's release, but again, roguelikes live and die by variety. Overall this is randomly one of my favorite shooters to date and I'm literally about to boot back into the demo, so obviously I'm excited. Good luck on the new launch Prophecy, and I look forward to seeing the full release!

Good demo, mainly stemming from the fact that this game is basically the original Deadzone Rogue - which is a good game. Yet this is supposed to be a new game, which it is not. If it wasn't for the new UI, the steam page would not be distinguishable from the first game. The new content is good (maps, enemies, guns), but could've fit in a DLC. The slightly updated graphics are irrelevant, as the original is only one year older. The biggest problem is the lack of any game design improvements though. The game risks literally nothing in terms of new design. It feels exactly like the first one without any meaningful improvements to it's systems. I do not mind if a sequel stays close to its roots - I often times enjoy this approach. But Deadzone Rogue 2 feels like a reskin, a sequel that takes zero steps forward. Weapons and gear use the same modifiers. The perk-system is nearly untouched. The mid-run gear upgrade system still works the same and is somewhat clunky and unrewarding. Only the meta-progression received a direct improvement - albeit a small one. As I was playing the original game I saw a lot of potential and was hoping Deadzone Rogue 2 would address a lot of issues, refine undercooked systems and improve upon the strong formula. But it seems like none of that really happened. We will see at release. As it stands, I would recommend to just play the original. It's the same game.
