This game scratched an itch for me that I miss from the classic Gameboy Yu-Gi-Oh and Pokemon TCG games which I find not many modern TCG games fulfil. The gameplay has a very pleasant curve from managing a small collection of cards and weighing up what you can afford to trade away into a lategame of a ridiculously overtuned deck that has you winning games in two to three turns, and while the card game itself is quite simple it is very much suited for purpose and honestly one of the more competently designed standalone video game TCGs I have played. I will say navigating the world is a bit of a chore as it is fairly large and you are comparatively slow. There is a fast travel feature but it is not pointed out to you. I wish I'd learned about it sooner! While it can feel like the game ends pretty quickly before you are able to experiment with more strategies I think with the power level you're at by the end of the game it would quickly outstay its welcome if it continued further. My one gripe with the gameplay is that due to how strong my deck was by the end of the game the final boss was one of the easiest fights of all, going down before he managed to play really any cards. It would have been nice to see the difficulty on this fight increased or for him to have a giant health pool for you to wail on for a few turns. (Although I will say they did a better job of this in the DLC) If, like me, you played older handheld TCG games in your childhood, you will enjoy this game
